Maritime Operations Management
Cargo Operations Management (3 EC's)
This course will introduce students to concepts and techniques related to transport techniques and procedures, control and improvement of (un)loading and carriage of goods by sea going and inland water vessels. Students will acquire knowledge of the philosophy of safe and efficient transport of goods and will gain insights in the role of transport regulations and rules on transport procedures. During the course, different handling procedures per commodity are elaborated on, such as break bulk, dry and liquid bulk, and container terminal operations.
Fleet Management (2 EC's)
With this course the aim is to provide the course participant with in-depth knowledge and skills on fleet management. The module addresses formal aspects concerning ships registry, flags and relevant organisations. Also fleet- and port operations are considered, not only focusing on cost effectiveness, but also on how to cope with incidents, thus realising safe and environmental friendly operations.
Maritime Survey & Safety Management (2 EC's)
Marine surveying covers the field of inspecting, surveying, or examining marine vessels to assess, monitor and report the condition of a ship, equipment for new or existing vessels, and checking compliance to various standards and regulations. Through this module, the student gets a thorough understanding of the meaning of marine surveying for the maritime industry. This module addresses all regulations, technologies and practices concerning maritime safety and surveying, relevant to the implementation of maritime transport solutions, which are safe, secure and protecting the environment. As future managers at shipping companies, port authorities or any other maritime related company, they will be confronted with surveys of their ships, or maybe even ask themselves for a survey report in order to support their decision making process to make critical management decisions.
